Sorting out Pictures - Chapter 1

I have been going through pictures lately in hopes of getting them better organized. Here are two of Elizabeth. In the left one, she is studying a Target ad - which remains a favorite activity. In the right one she is doing an art project. She still likes to do those, too.

Flashback Friday

My father taught at this school in Ashtabula, Ohio. It was his first teaching job. He also was the girls' basketball coach. When my parents got married, my mother had to quit teaching. It was not socially acceptable to be a married woman teacher at that time.




I took these pictures last summer. According to the yearbook from the old Edgewood High School, things look pretty much the same as they did when my parents were part of that school about seventy years ago.

Happy Anniversary

Lily was part of a special occasion at our church on Sunday. It was the 45th anniversary of this Methodist congregation. Many people came back to help celebrate. Lily's Mama and Daddy joined Richard in the choir. Parke Cooley, another old friend, directed the choir today. His two girls Lauralee and Elise also sang. Former pastor, Jim Kuse, returned from Florida to give the sermon. All in all, it was a splendid celebration.

Weird Things

Chances are my three daughters get some of their weirdness from me. Here are a few things I came up with:
1. I never walk on yellow lines.
2. I always have a current book I am reading when I fly. I am convinced this is what keeps the plane up in the air.
3. I know the lyrics to hundreds of songs published in the 30's, 40's and 50's. Too bad I can't sing.
4. I remember all of my elementary teachers and where I sat in their class.
5. With the exception of the one in Lyme, Connecticut, I enjoy spending time in cemeteries visiting relatives.

On the Road

It was off to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania this weekend. The Swing Machine played a concert in nearby DuBois. The concert was a big success, and well received by the near to capacity audience. Most of the band stayed at the Pantall Hotel in Punxsie - as the locals call it.


We had a fun time over breakfast this morning.


Word has it that the movie "Ground Hog Day" was not actually filmed in Punxsutawney, but in a small town in Indiana. However, Bill Murray stayed at the Pantall when they did the publicity for the movie.

There are multiple statues of groundhogs in town, as well as the real thing over at the public library. Here I am standing with "Phil" in front of the hotel.
