Austa Porter Remembered

Today we had an in service at school. I overheard one of the presenters saying she was from Geneva. When I had a chance I said that I grew up in Jefferson. She told me she had relatives there. Come to find out one of them is a cousin who was a good friend during elementary school. Her name was Patti Shore, and her phone number was Blue 604. Then more coincidences came to light. One of this lady's elementary teachers was Austa Porter. My Aunt Austa was quite a lady - probably all of 4"10". She loved teaching. Aunt Austa was also a very determined person. She learned how to drive in her fifties without telling anyone until she had her driver's license in hand. It was a good day - partially because the in service was informative - but mostly because I had all these memories about my dear Aunt Austa from Austinburg.

More Ohio Weather

This morning we woke up to ice all over everything. The birds are still able to get around, and so did we. We managed to get to two different church services, have lunch at Isaly's and workout this afternoon. Tonight I am going to watch the Oscars. D went to Youngstown with two of his Bob friends to see a concert. I think I am more than ready for a trip to California.

Snow in Ohio

The media is not exaggerating. Plenty of snow fell in Ohio during the last 24 hours. Most schools in the area have another snow day. D and I had lots of fun outside.

Ten on Tuesday

1. I asked D to take me to school today. That way I would not have to clean off the snow at the end of the day.
2. Upon arriving the custodian told me, "No school." Fortunately, I was able to catch D.
3. I love snow days, but Space Bunch was today. It will be difficult to reschedule.
4. Hm, what shall I do today?
5. READ. My current books are GOD'S POLITICS by JIm Wallis and THE PRETTIES by Scott Westerfeld.
6. There are always interesting things to be found in the basement.
7. It is a workout day. We will go earlier than usual. (Snow days don't usually keep me home.)
8. We have a new woodpecker feeder for our three regular visitors. We did not get it for the squirrels, but they think it is theirs.
9. Our new MAC is really cool. I don't go near the PC anymore. There is still lots to learn.
10. I hope you all have a nice day and enjoy it as much as I will.

In the company of friends

I am a member of the educational honorary Delta Kappa Gamma. One of the reasons I like this group is because many of my librarian friends are also members. The program topics this year include gifted children, a view of the Internet by an FBI agent, mental illness and children and an author/artist discussing her career. A friend gave me this picture at today's meeting. It was taken at the December meeting. That day we just enjoyed Christmas music and each other's company.
