A Visit to Oregon

On July 15 we flew to Portland, Oregon. Upon arrival we visited Earl and Carolyn Palmer for lunch. Earl and Richard are friends from their high school days in Washington Court House, Ohio. On Sunday afternoon, Earl took us to Powells - the famous Portland bookstore. From there we drove to Seaside where I attended the Oregon Coast Children's Book Writers Workshop. This was a fantastic experience. I learned a lot from the numerous authors, agents and book publishers on the staff. At the conclusion of each day's activities, Richard and I went exploring. This part of the country lacked cell phone and Internet coverage, but made up for it with the awesome scenery of the Pacific Northwest. On Friday we headed back to Portland, and stayed overnight with the Palmers. We arrived back in Ohio early on the morning of July 22. What a wonderful trip.

Happy 4th of July

Stow, Ohio is the home of one of the biggest 4th of July Parades in the country. I don't know this to be a fact, but it lasted almost 2 1/2 hours, and had lots of great participants. We always watch it at the Troyers. After the parade they have a big picnic with family and friends. This year we celebrated the summer birthdays of lifelong friends Elizabeth and Marie.
