When the elephants came to town

The description of the St. Patrick's Day parade in Washington D.C. reminded me of when three year old Elizabeth and I went to see the elephants come to town on their way to the circus at the Coliseum in Richfield. The elephants rode the train to Peninsula. After disembarking, they had to walk the rest of the way on the highway. We left home about 9:00. We found a place by the side of Rt. 303, parked the car and waited and waited. They finally passed by, each one holding the tale of the one in front. These elephants looked really big, as we were only a few feet away from them. I can't remember how many there were. Unfortunately, I did not have a camera with me that day. I added a picture of an elephant that reminded me of the ones that day. They did not have any fancy hats, etc., just a few handlers walking along with them to keep them moving in the right direction.

I really like that I had this experience too--wish I had been old enough to have remembered it 30+ years later! Thank you for taking me.
