I started this blog to answer some questions. All of a sudden I realized - what could I possibly say of interest on a regular basis? I don't usually even comment on blogs. I just send emails to the blogger. However, the DJ on my morning radio station (91.5) was talking about the winter of 1977 this morning. I have lots to say about that.
We had a five month old baby that January. Lily is about that age now. Okay -it was Marie. You can figure out how old she is. Sorry about that. The temperature that month remained double digits below zero several times. I don't remember the exact day of the blizzard, but it was really something. The wind made incredible noises. Elizabeth had a special bear named Peter. We coined the phrase "Peter's Uncle" to keep her from being afraid. She certainly was not afraid of Peter and the thought of his uncle coming for a visit seemed to do the trick. Our dog, Karla, would not go outside by herself. After putting on multiple layers, Richard took her out. He came back in the house with a bloody nose. That's how strange the air pressure was that day. Needless to say, we all stayed in other than that. Our weatherman on Channel 3, Wally Kinnan, had warned us before the blizzard to go out for milk - which we did.
The other winter I really remember was in 1952. I grew up in the Ohio snow belt, although I never realized we had more snow than just about anyone else in the state. We had a two week vacation from school. It was great. Now if I have one snow day, it seems like a miracle.
Suzy - you made a comment on this blog. Are you the Suzy who has made friends with all of my daughters? I hope I get to meet you in person sometime.
Bec - Laura Root does not have a blog yet. I think she might be talked into it, though. Actually, I don't think any of the people I tagged have one - yet.

Mrs. Willis,
I am the Susie that has made friends with each of your wonderful daughters.
I count myself blessed to know each one.

We live in San Diego and we woke up to 32 degree weather today--- I said a quick prayer for rain, for the historical chance of seeing some snow here... but it's now up into the 40s. My chance has passed.

My husband is in the Air Force and we have a good chance of being stationed in Dayton one day. I will drive to wherever-Ohio to meet you and Marie... and Lily, too!:)

I always wondered where Peter's Uncle came from. We have Peter's cousin at our house. Unfortunately he brought his pet racoon...

Actually, I believe it was Dick Goddard on Channel 8 that gave us the warning about the blizzard.

Once you start this blog thing, you will think of things to post more often. And if you have trouble, I'm certain there are plenty of us to suggest topics : )

I have very distinct memories of this blizzard, especially sitting at the kitchen table while Daddy held Marie up for us to be in a picture. I will locate that picture today!
