The Dentist

As far as dentists go I don't think I have ever missed a six month appointment ever. I can name all the dentists in my life. I started out with Dr. White, a tall thin, bald headed man with no sense of humor, He practiced out of a house in Jefferson that my brother later rented. It was a couple houses down from Mr. Farebaugh, our piano teacher.

We then went to Dr. Waters, also a Jefferson dentist. I don't know why we switched. I do remember Dr. Waters had a very handsome son named Richard. I thought he was totally cool even if he was way too old for me. I am pretty sure that is not why we changed dentists. That handsome Richard is still alive. I talked to him at an Ashtabula County event a couple years ago. Since I am old, he must be really old, but I made his day by telling him how nice looking he was as a young man.

After we moved to Massillon I began a long relationship with Dr. Davenport. I outlasted him. I switched to a (he who shall not be named but still practicing dentist) - but did not stay long. His hygienist was unpleasant. I am sure the girls still remember her. Now I go to the wonderful Dr. Evan. He sings as he works, which I find endearing. My hygienist Chris does a great job, too. Her step-mother lived next door to us on Lynwood many years ago. It seems like everything and everyone is connected somehow or other.

Some families do not have the habit of regular dental appointments. It is expensive. I actually tricked my spouse into regular visits to the dentist. One day decades ago I left him a message to call a certain phone number. It was the dentist. He was so shocked he made an appointment and has not missed one since.

I never heard the story of how you tricked Daddy into going to the dentist. That is hilarious.

I remember that trick, and I think I associate hearing about it with the parking lot at Stow Public Library. I can't name all my dentists because there have been so many, but I did especially like Dr. Anderson in Montana (I had both his kids in class, and they were excellent golfers--Scott went on to Ohio State to play golf). My first dentist in Cheyenne died from leukemia in 2010. I liked him a lot.

She put the note in my lunch bag and it said to call the number.

Boy, was I surprised...

p.s. I am glad I called, though...
